The Community Initiatives Program (CIP) Operating stream is reviewed, at a minimum, every 5 years to ensure the guidelines best support the needs of Alberta’s communities as well as align with best practices in grant administration. See the updated guidelines for changes which include outcomes specific to the CIP Operating stream, new intake dates, and updates to the program criteria. The CIP Operating stream application process has changed. Applications are now only accepted through our secure online application portal called Front Office.
ECF’s Community Grants program provides funding to help with a variety of organizational needs. Our support is specific to your organizational needs. We look to organizations to determine their priority areas; this can include renovations, equipment purchases, program support, and more. 2024 Guidelines will be available soon.

The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grants and contributions program. It provides funding for projects that make a difference in the lives of seniors and in their communities.
A December 2020 study by Canada’s Industry Strategy Council indicates that removing barriers and advancing gender equality in work could result in an additional $150 billion in incremental GDP through 2026 for Canada. The Women’s Economic Recovery Challenge Grant Program funds initiatives led by Alberta non-profit organizations that help enhance women’s economic opportunities by providing strategies and solutions to address barriers and engage more effectively in the economy. Applicants must submit proposals according to the specifications and conditions set out in the grant program guidelines.
The Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) Program funds initiatives led by Alberta municipalities, Indigenous communities and non-profit organizations that promote regional economic development and diversification. Funding Approved applicants are eligible to receive between $20,000 to $200,000 to support eligible project costs. While there is no maximum total project cost under the program, grant funding will not exceed $200,000 per project.
The Small Community Opportunity Program (the Program) provides grants to tackle challenges and tap into opportunities in rural areas. Indigenous and small communities, as well as non-profit groups they work with, may receive between $20,000 and $100,000 for local projects. By building capacity in the agriculture industry and small business, these rural communities will grow their economic footprint.
