About the program
The Black Newcomer Employment Program (BNEP) is a comprehensive initiative designed to support and empower Black newcomers to Canada and Alberta on their journey to meaningful employment opportunities. The program aims to address the unique challenges faced by Black immigrants and refugees by providing them with the resources, skills and connections needed to succeed in the local labour market.




Personal development
BNEP aims to empower newcomers through personal development workshops, building their confidence, leadership skills and resilience in the face of challenges.

Orientation and assessment
BNEP focuses on preparing black newcomers for the job search process by improving their employability skills, such as resume writing and interview techniques.

Program Objectives
- Job Readiness: BNEP focuses on preparing black newcomers for the job search process by improving their employability skills, such as resume writing, interview techniques and workplace etiquette.
- Cultural Integration: The program promotes cultural integration by offering workshops and training sessions that help newcomers understand and navigate local work culture and business practices.
- Language support: Language barriers can be a significant barrier for newcomers. BNEP offers language support services, including language classes and conversation groups, to improve participants’ English proficiency.
- Job Placement and Matching: BNEP actively works with local employers to identify job opportunities that match the skills and qualifications of program participants. The program strives to match candidates with suitable positions, creating a win-win situation for job seekers and employers.
- Networking and Mentoring: Participants are connected with industry professionals and mentors who can offer advice, insights and support throughout their job search and beyond.
- Personal Development: BNEP aims to empower newcomers through personal development workshops, building their confidence, leadership skills and resilience in the face of challenges.
- Advocacy and Awareness: The program champions diversity and inclusion in the workforce by engaging with employers and raising awareness of the unique contributions and talents of Black newcomers.
Program components
- Orientation and Assessment: Upon enrollment, participants receive an orientation session to familiarize themselves with the program structure and objectives. Individual assessments are conducted to identify each participant’s strengths, skills, and areas for improvement.
- Employability Workshops: BNEP offers a series of workshops covering a variety of employment-related topics including resume writing, job search strategies, professional communication and work ethics.
- Language Support Services: Language classes and conversation groups are offered to improve participants' English proficiency and build their confidence in verbal communication.
- Job Placement Assistance: The program team actively seeks job opportunities from partner employers and matches candidates based on their qualifications and preferences.
- Networking Events: Regular networking events are held to connect attendees with industry professionals, potential employers and mentors who can offer valuable information and support.
- Personal Development Sessions: Workshops focused on personal growth, leadership and challenge solving help participants develop self-awareness and self-confidence.
Eligibility
- BNEP is open to Black immigrants and refugees who have recently arrived in Alberta.
- Participants must have work authorization in the country and a willingness to actively seek employment opportunities.
This space provides computers for job searches and other services.
Job Search is the only employment service provider serving French-speaking newcomer and Black immigrant job seekers and offering programs to help our clients develop useful tools and skills needed to find and keep a job.
