About the Program

The Black Newcomer Employment Program (BNEP) is a comprehensive initiative designed to support and empower Black newcomers to Canada/Alberta in their journey towards securing meaningful employment opportunities. The program aims to address the unique challenges faced by Black immigrants and refugees, providing them with the necessary resources, skills, and connections to thrive in the local job market.

Orientation and Assessment

BNEP focuses on preparing Black newcomers for the job search process by enhancing their employability skills, such as resume writing, and interview techniques.

Job Placement Assistance

BNEP actively works with local employers to identify job opportunities that align with the skills and qualifications of program participants. The program strives to match candidates with suitable positions, creating a win-win situation for both job seekers and employers.

Program Objectives and Components

Program Objectives:

  1. Employment Readiness: BNEP focuses on preparing Black newcomers for the job search process by enhancing their employability skills, such as resume writing, interview techniques, and workplace etiquette.

  3. Language Support: Language barriers can be a significant hurdle for newcomers. BNEP provides language support services, including language classes and conversation groups, to improve participants’ English proficiency.

  4. Job Placement and Matching: BNEP actively works with local employers to identify job opportunities that align with the skills and qualifications of program participants. The program strives to match candidates with suitable positions, creating a win-win situation for both job seekers and employers.

  5. Networking and Mentoring: Participants are connected with industry professionals and mentors who can offer guidance, insights, and support throughout their job search and beyond.

  7. Advocacy and Awareness: The program advocates for diversity and inclusion in the workforce by engaging with employers and raising awareness about the unique contributions and talents of Black newcomers.

Program Components:

  1. Orientation and Assessment: Upon enrollment, participants receive an orientation to familiarize them with the program’s structure and objectives. Individual assessments are conducted to identify each participant’s strengths, skills, and areas for improvement.

  2. Employability Workshops: BNEP offers a series of workshops covering various employment-related topics, including resume building, job search strategies, professional communication, and workplace ethics.

  3. Language Support Services: Language classes and conversation groups are provided to improve participants’ English language proficiency and boost their confidence in verbal communication.

  4. Job Placement Assistance: The program’s team actively seeks job opportunities from partner employers and matches candidates based on their qualifications and preferences.

  5. Networking Events: Regular networking events are organized to connect participants with industry professionals, potential employers, and mentors who can offer valuable insights and support.

  6. Personal Development Sessions: Workshops focusing on personal growth, leadership, and overcoming challenges help participants build self-awareness and confidence.

Eligibility: The BNEP is open to Black immigrants and refugees who have recently arrived in Alberta. Participants should have work authorization in the country and a desire to actively pursue employment opportunities.

Job search is the only employment services provider to serve Newcomer and Black Immigrant French-speaking job seekers and programs to assist our clients to develop useful tools and the necessary skills to find and maintain employment.
